Editorial policy
Northern Chronicle aims to make regional history clear, specific and accountable. We distinguish what a source or record says from what we infer, and we revise published work when reliable information shows that it needs correction.
Accuracy and context
We check names, dates and factual claims against appropriate available sources before publication. Historical accounts can be incomplete or contested; where that matters, we explain the limits rather than smoothing them away. We do not claim certainty where the evidence does not support it.
Independence and partnerships
Editorial decisions are made separately from commercial arrangements. Paid or partner material is clearly labelled where it appears, so readers can distinguish it from editorial coverage. A partnership does not guarantee coverage or a favourable account.
Corrections and illustrations
Readers can report a possible error through the Contact page. We review specific correction requests and update published material when warranted, making the change clear when it affects meaning. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; these are identified where they appear and are not presented as documentary evidence.
A place is never only a backdrop
Routes, work, buildings and customs leave traces worth reading. Northern Chronicle looks at those details to make regional history easier to see in the places around us.
